The company is specialized in building brand new historical instruments, continuo organs in Italian 17th-, or 18th-century style, German 17th century organ cabinet-organs), and copies of antiques such as Renaissance Regals, 16th century Claviorganum (in partnership with Emile Jobin) and the reconstruction and restoration of historic organs (Silbermann, Stumm, Stiehr, Merklin, Rinckenbach, Walcker, Roethinger,etc.). We also manufacture medieval and renaissance table organs, organetti, chest organs and study organs with pull-out chests.

Our activity is dedicated to all organ building works. The Manufacture Blumenroeder has thus realized more than twenty home organs, study organs, continuo organs (2 to 9 stops), six new church organs (10 to 30 stops), restored about forty organs (7 to 60 stops), including ten instruments built by the Silbermann dynasty. This represents ninety organs in all.

Our approach is to work in close collaboration with musicians, other organbuilders, scientists and researchers specialised in the history of science and art. We wish to create instruments dedicated to musicians and to the repertoire, focusing to the organological and musical context of each project. Our work is carried out with respect for the traditions of organbuilding : all the parts are finished with a hand plane, our glues are organic (bone, skin, fish), traditional assembly techniques are used, etc...

Since October 2007, the company has invested in a former tithe barn (Foyer Saint-Georges) dating from 1527. Located in Haguenau (the 4th largest city in Alsace), a stone's throw from the train station in the city center, this place provides us with a pleasant, vast and spectacular working environment.

Before our arrival, this building, which is listed on the of historical monuments, had been vacant for sixteen years. On the first floor, we have a ninety square-meter workroom with beautiful Renaissance vaults opening to the outside.

This room is equipped with workbenches and several worktables. It contains all the equipment dedicated to the construction of organs. It is here that the parts are made, finished with a plane and assembled with hot glue (organic, bone, skin, fish), as well as traditional methods of assembly (dovetail joints, tenon and-mortise, and scroll sawing). This room is equipped with a hot glue table.

The wood parts are cut out there, from carefully chosen wood which has undergone a particular seasoning process (for up to sixty years for some of it). Our 120 square-meter machine room provides the necessary space for the following tools.

The forge

We particularly appreciate wrought iron elements, which we take pleasure in forging ourselves. The action of forging is undeniably of great nobility and provides mechanical specificities to the various elements. We mainly forge: nails, arms, pedals.

This forge has all the necessary equipment for manufacturing iron parts: forge, welding, etc. The metal finishes are multiple (for example the bluing).

The voicing area

We have a 40 m2 room where a voicing organ with two keyboards is installed. This room is well equipped with storage items for the pipes.

The voicing works are made by Quentin Blumenroeder who trained with Bernard Aubertin and Jean-Marie Tricoteaux. Trained also with Emile Jobin for the tuning, confirmed by a great experience of concert tuner and teacher of tuning at the Conservatory of Strasbourg, Quentin is passionate about the questions around the temperaments.

We attach the greatest importance to voicing and tuning. Harmonization is done almost exclusively at the final location of the instruments.

Our « large hall »

This space is used as an assembly room for the large instruments. In the 1950s, the building was transformed into a theater. The dimensions of this room allow us the voicing in interesting acoustic conditions. On the first floor we have a stage of 120m² and 8,80m high, an orchestra pit and a large auditorium of 300m².

This building allows us to set up several instruments at the same time, by distributing them as we wish according to size.
